A Different Kind of Mountain to Climb

Gorgeous,  eye popping earth colours of yellow ochre, red ochre, sienna, burnt umber, buff titanium. All these were found just on one small bit of the rock I was climbing!

 

 

Design Elements in this photograph:

 

• There is an inferred diagonal line from lower left to upper mid right,  that  can be ‘seen’  when looking closer.
• This  ‘inferred’  diagonal gives the image some movement preventing a  static feeling.  It gives the image a “going up the hill” outlook.
• The textures are intriguing with the minute, pebble like inclusions that are in random patterns throughout.
• The tones are quite subtle,  but definitely more than sufficient to create visual interest. And there is more than the minimum Light, Mid, Dark tones required.

 

• This is a quite a subtle photograph, unlike the prior Climb photographs:   Its A Climb and Climb II which are very strong and dominant. They don’t really have the subtle nuances this does.
• The colours are beautifully neutral in most of the image, with sudden bursts of rusty orange  scattered about the photograph to jazz it up a little.
• The edges, are quite lovely and soft in the background with a gentle touch of blur in the direct front, which very effectively leads the eye in towards the sharper focused area.
• The  overall harmony  of the image relaxes and is  zen.  Unity was achieved with all the design elements working together creating a pleasing whole, without discordance.

 

• However  –  The one thing I’d change if I could:  I’d like the rusty orange in the background to be a much cooler, duller browny/greyed off version. That would help to make the depth and perspective smoother and recede much more effectively.

That’s when my fingers itch for the paint brush, to ‘fix the problem.’
