Bright red scarlet.

Scorching heat reaching upwards and beyond.

Just a hint of cobalt teal blue to accent in the corner.

Watercolor Abstract

Yesterday’s cactus blooms with their wonderful flame shapes stirred my imagination.  Leading to the creation of this colorful watercolor abstract.

The flower petals could become…..

chrysanthemums,  Christmas cactus, dahlias,  synthetic dyed sunflowers or many others.

I felt that in this case, today,   they wanted to be unconfined.

  • Unlined.
  • Unconstrained.
  • No boundaries.
  • Melting.  Merging.   Soft edges.

A New View

3 Views of the Same Painting

These  3  Views of the same subject, the same painting,  provides an interesting selection.

I nearly always rotate and ‘virtually’  crop all paintings.

It reveals so many new perspectives to the scene or subject that my first glance, my first thoughts didn’t even register.

I included these, in order for you to get an idea of my process. And to choose for yourself which version you prefer.

Today’s  paintings and post was Inspired by  12 Significant Photographs   from yesterday.

This photograph is a  Tropical ‘twist’  using the cactus blooms and their flame like petals in a vibrant Hawaiian approach.

Making me think …. of  yummy luas !

Watercolor Abstract, Flames of a Flower was a fun and bold painting.  Inspired by the photographs taken yesterday.  Influenced.

Or as a lovely art friend once said,  “lightly salted with yesterday’s memories.”

  1. I had a big smile on my face as I scrolled down the page. When I looked at your paintings I thought they looked like cactus flowers. Then there were the photos. You did a great job! Beautiful colours and you got the feeling, the action, the shape, the character of the cactus flower.

    1. wow, thanks!! I’m glad these made you Smile!! thats what I wanted.
That, plus to get the shape and color.
Yet to also create an ambiguity ….. that would allow each viewer the discretion to see what they wished! I love that about art/painting 🙂

      1. So interesting that you’re winding up your day over there while we’re just getting up and getting our morning started. Have a good rest. We’ll be spending the day at the botanical gardens. I’m looking forward to it.

  4. wonderful paintings and photos. I would prefer the 3rd one. I like that you took some yellow in it. It reminds me of some tulips we have in our garden, cheers Mitza

    1. thank you Mitza! the 3rd is a little less sharp, tamed. bit. I’m glad your garden is coming along – with some sun. No more of that nasty ice, snow, freezing stuff!! 🙂

      1. No, no more freezing, but thunder and lightning instead and heavy rain. Sigh. I took a ride with my bike today and was attacked by some ravens. It was really frightening like Hitchcock

      2. No, fortunately not, just very scared and I had to go there on my way back again, but then the birds were somewhere else. Some days ago I was threatened by a very aggressive woman who stepped into my way and tried to push me from the bike with her elbow. I guess bicycling is the most dangerous thing in the world, hehe
