#700 Our Imagination

Seven hundred times, I’ve pressed “Publish” and hoped …. for the best.

Sometimes my imagination has a win.

Sometimes, the creative spark has gone walk about.

To Imagine …

 

Regardless of the win or the ‘not so fabulous’ result…. It is about the trying.

The climbing.   Its the Climb…

The persistence.

And the imagination that is inside  All of us.

 

Asking, to be set free.

 

That’s what I wish to share with you, today.

These 4 oil abstract paintings, were Inspired by nature.

Inspired by my zen strolls through the neighbor’s rose beds, past the local flower gardens and past lily ponds.

In allowing my imagination the freedom to do what it wished, I gave it open ended opportunities.

Opportunities and possibilities my literal representational mind would not, could not see.

 

 

When I turn it loose, set no boundaries on my imagination… uncertainties abound.

I don’t know, what I am going to end up with.

It is a Fun surprise.

Yes,  of course, I’ve had the kind of surprises that I scowl at!

They are amusing;  Later.

 

But, then I get such delightful color blends and imaginative shapes and forms emerge in the other paintings – it makes it all so worthwhile.

 

It is a risk.    Risks of painting… 

It is a roll of the dice. But oh so fun!

 

 

Fearless!

We need not fear,  painting.

We need not fear setting our imaginations   L O O S E.

Nor fear making a mistake. Nor fear someone else, not liking it.

 

We can look at it,  as if   We Were Cooking.

Sometimes we get the recipe just right, sometimes we don’t.

And even if when we do, still some people just don’t like chocolate and prefer strawberry instead.

Thats ok, thats  their taste.  Their preference.  Right?!

 

 

 

I couldn’t let this 700th post go by without mentioning what to me,

is probably the most important element of art…. our imaginations.

 

I do hope,  Your Imagination is stirred up and released in whatever art form you create in.

  1. oh yes indeed! Imagination is the spice to the recipe, maybe the piece of art comes out a bit flat, not enough “spice” and that is why we let the imagination fly and soar once again, to make it flavorful….that first suits us, “tastes” pretty darn good to us, first! After all aren’t we making art for ourselves first? That is freedom, to not care or adjust our recipe according to someone else flavor or taste. Especially ludicrous if that person is someone you have never met or lives half the way across the world!! Haha…..sorry I am ballistic on this but it is really sinking down deep within me. I have been reading and studying the life and art of Georgia O’Keefe and she cared dittily squat about the opinions of others, their opinions and comments got in the way of “the work”. Though she did care that they tried to analyze her art and attribute sexual themes (this infuriated her!) but other than that, she could care less. Love this post Debi! you rock!! by the way, love the paintings!

      Georgia O Keefe…. she, is an Inspiration 🙂 I love all the bio you included here for us too btw. And it is true, caring too much about the thoughts of others does “get in the way.” We fail to live fully, up to our own full measure in the doing. hmmm… What Book are you reading? 🙂

      1. The book is “Georgia O’Keefe: A Life” by Roxana Robinson….I just finished it the other day. I have another bio that I will be reading soon, I started another book just to give myself a bit of a breather. I am so afraid of burning out on her, I can’t have that! lol

    1. hi Maureen, I think it is part of the process most of us go through. Starting off quite rigid (in my case, anyway) and bit by bit, loosening up with time. And you are so blessed in the wonderful area you live too; nearly year round you can go paint outside. Not too many horrid hot days, or icy days …. I think it would be a great place, very inspirational to paint 🙂

  4. Beautiful abstract oil paintings Debi. I love the textures you can create with oil paints. And you are so right about imagination – our imagination is the most important element we can add to our art. Quite often it can get buried and stifled under the pressures of every day “life” but it needs to be let loose – allowed to run wild and free. An inspirational thought to keep foremost in my mind….

    1. hi Evelyn, thank you so much. Its true about “life.” and the burying.
      In the classes I teach, I ‘aim’ for this expressive imagination – all the while the enrollees are thinking of photographic replication. It is an interesting journey during the year!
      I bet you can picture it, the instructor coaxing the class to jump the fence and run, be free! and the group…. closing their eyes tight, saying NO, no we want to stay here! LOL well, that is how it feels sometimes 🙂

    Do you remember July Andrews singing: “I have confidence in me” and her role in Sound of Music?

    A long time ago I had the pleasure and privilege of being in a group for which the real Maria Von Trapp appeared and led us in song. I have kept an image of her in my mind ever since: there was a woman who “climbed every mountain” and kept love and imagination breathing in her heart.

      1. Yes, she really did. I can’t remember the words only the impact they had on me:
        She was so tiny, so sincere, so loving, and so strong. She spoke to us at the Girl Scout Roundup held at Button Bay, VT. then led us in song. I think the year was 1963.
