The Leaf

I adore the textures etched into this weathered dying leaf.

Lines upon lines, filled with a treasure of textures.

I nearly passed it by.

But something made me stop and turn back.

Fortune Smiled.

The Leaf …… glorious textures

The Leaf

Simplicity,

in monochrome.

Warmed with a soft sienna tone.

Hinting at the life lived;

Now fading slowly

Back to earth.

“The Leaf” ย is a beautiful example I think, ย of Wabi Sabi.

For the curious, I used my old Canon 600d with a Canon 100mm macro lens 2.8L

The shutter speed was at 1/200 ย the fstop at f5.6 and the ISO at 100

Fortune Smiled.

The act of creation, in any media is a fascinating and magical process. I simply love to create. Expressing in color, line, tone, texture - as if, they were words upon a page. Creating a uniquely me, interpretation. Enjoy More of my "one-of-a-kind" expressive art at society6.com/debiriley and, redbubble.com/people/debijriley/shop

    1. thank you! I think Anneli we pass things by, and take things for granted …. just about all the time. I’d like to be able to ingrain more of a daily practice of sitting and actually being appreciative, of what IS in my life. rather than what is ‘not’ – gosh, too deep for too early in the morning! lol
have a wonderful Spring, weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Lovely photo; but, maybe not of lines -if one thinks of line as a mark made by a human-but, rather of dried conduits of life wrapped around the form which in dying is curling up and closing back within itself. Does life draw lines or does death? or maybe only us.

And, thank you Deborah, I’m really pleased that you enjoyed this and shared your thoughts!!! my ratio of decent shots to the rubbish is not great. but once in awhile, I get one I smile at ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. This is SO cool, Debi. You have no idea how long I sat just staring at this image of yours. What a brilliant shot! Such beauty found in a leaf. Just wow!!! The perfect design and the textures are so close I could almost touch them. You have inspired me today to continue finding the magic. Thank you ever so much!! (((HUGS))) โค

    1. you’re very generous Amy!! it was so odd reading your post, and having it nearly echo my thoughts. getting so hard on myself that I did not meet the standards of others. those who were photographers for 15 -30+ years with professional gear.. how Silly of me!!
and to let anyone, subtly, put me down for it. even sillier.
I’m really happy, that in some measure I can Encourage, Inspire you and anybody else. to Free the unique original artist that wants to come out. not be caged in by Negative words or thoughts.
Your magnificent lavender crocus shot…. oooh la la! ๐Ÿ™‚ we don’t want you to do your art like so and so. but like AMY!!!!!! all my best wishes, hugs, Debi

      1. Most people who do not know photographers understand what goes on behind the scenes, and they don’t appreciate the ALL we do. The equipment alone can get overwhelming much less how to operate that equipment. You, dear friend, keep on taking those lovely pictures and I will do the same. I’ve been very sporadic here at WP so my absences may be long but never intentional. All my best to you! Here is to the most of us! Cheers! โค
