The Light Within

What I have, I am certain others do as well.

I’m not that special. No, I can’t say I’m uniquely special.

The Light Within

The Light Within

We all have some hidden gift.  We all have a creative voice.

We all have some music, some words, some light, some colors that need to be let ….loose.

Let out.

Why? So that everyone gets to share in these gifts; and everyone gets to hear the beauty of the music that plays.

And so everyone can see that glow of light within.

And share in the magic of form,  or color or words … thats been buried deep.

A Voice, Hidden Within

You know, Sometimes –

I bury the light within.  Hide my colors.  And, Shush my voice.

I know why. So do you.

Fine Line

It is a Fine Line.

It is a Fine Line.  This  balancing act on the high wire.

Balancing the artist’s often unmet need to express their own  originality and creativity – with staying somewhere within the accepted parameters of public acceptance and approval and appeal.  Often, the two are seemingly at war; especially so, on social media sites.

I wonder, What….  does it gain me to close my eyes to the beauty inside waiting to be released?

To hide away and to block my ears from the song within?

I know what it slowly does to the artist within.   So do you.

Colors – are my words

There is a creative Light Within.

Your Originality is  worth the risk.

And, it is something we want and need to see,  hear and feel.

You may not paint. Or sing. Or write. Or sculpt. Or cook.  Or photograph. But, just because you aren’t called to a specific one… doesn’t mean you are not creative in another area of art.

Sharing…. is caring.

Show us,  Your Light!!

  1. Beautiful post Debi. Somehow the starting paragraph made me think of the song “Helplessness Blues” by Fleet Foxes, they sing:

“I was raised up believing I was somehow unique
Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see
And now after some thinking, I’d say I’d rather be
A functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me
But I don’t, I don’t know what that will be
I’ll get back to you someday soon you will see”

If you have 2 minutes, check out the song on YouTube. Beautiful in my view:

  2. I LOVE LOVE this post Debi! You captured everything that is in my heart into words I could never find the words for. As I often remind myself, social media can break or help grow an artist. Focusing on the like, love, wow buttons for every piece we share does not support the sharing relationship. It only supports the validation we ourselves cannot bring to do. I agree with you 100%, sharing is caring. Unfortunately very few people see it that way.

    1. thank You, Carrie! I am so glad this post spoke to you as much as to me.
I tried to find the ‘disable’ Like button for this post… but, of course couldn’t find it.LOL Over the decades, I’d never, ever been a ‘do it for gallery approval’ artist. But, since starting WP – I see, insidious signs. sigh.
I will find the disable Like button, if I have to!! 🙂 thanks again, Debi

      1. you’re welcome, Debi. 🙂 i can so relate to your post because i was once in the position most artist especially beginners like me fall into….we fervently seek approval from others. we value what others say as what our heart’s say, we take time finding what is “in” and would do just that because of virtual applause like the ‘like’ button. when i realized that i was in that situation i had a heart to heart talk with my husband. after that, i followed what my heart is telling me and do what i can. i only aim to please myself and my inner critic. and sharing became second nature. 🙂

  3. I just love this, really a standout post from a standout artist. You really are unique and your light really does shine so brightly. I mean, it does, there’s just no doubt about it. Just love the photos, every one, just wow images and then to come to the bottom and the paintings and I’m like omg what’s the medium here, ooh what did she put in this, how did she do this oh so many questions …….and your words, just the whole thing, stream of consciousness response here, I hope it makes sense but really so lovely, Debi. And one of my missions in life is to encourage people who think they can’t to try. What have you got to lose? Just do it, we are creators, we have to do it if we are to have any hope for balance. We need to Do It and Make It and Paint it. We just have to do it. Everyone needs to find what it is they were meant to create and start creating. I’ve rambled enough now, Amen times a thousand to your post and I am so glad you left your light on for us this morning. Thank you. ((((((3d))))))

    1. thank you ((LL)) !! your calling and mine to inspire, to create, to enthuse, to ‘rally’ are parallel. 🙂
for this post, I didn’t include image details, as I wanted the images to tell a story.
the details, would only distract the mind. imo. upon reflecting, I’ll have to shift – how and what I post. I’m getting too aware, of the “likes” followers, shares, numbers, targets, whats been “Popular’…
and that, is not where I want to go. 🙂 3d

    1. Jodi, thank you!! I am so glad that this has touched you, like it has. I had a long think about this post. and I must say, it was written with not only ‘others’ in mind, but myself too. The whole social media popularity, approval ratings, etc. has just escalated.
And, its definitely… influenced me. Unfortunately!
So, I’m going to have a think, about my WP type of posts and images.

      1. yes, that would be the crux of my rethink.
Continuing the site, just like I would, in class, in galleries, any where else. And….blinker my eyes, to the buttons and ratings.
but… leave the comments of course. HSW! they make me smile! lol 🙂
