Diablo Lake. Cobalt Teal.  Watercolor/Ink Mountains

After getting ‘all inked up‘ in the forest,  I decided to ink up some mountains  as well.

And,  I can’t quite resist that Beguiling Cobalt Teal.

This,  is  definitely a very different approach for me with these mountains.

I have ‘contained’ them. Constrained them.

Boxed and labelled, defined them nice and tight.

Whereas my regular style of mountains and hills are soft and loose, blurred and more inviting.    Cerulean and Prussian

Touch The Mountain

But indeed,  the North Cascades Peaks rising above Diablo Lake are not soft and inviting. They are sharp.

Jagged.  Warning of the dangers of venturing up on their devilish slopes.

Yet,  in an odd way I still find these mountains appealing. Compelling.

The shapes I created with the ink, are so abstract that it loosens  up the design just that tiny bit.

And the addition of the Cobalt Teal Blue…. is just Enough,  that I can enjoy the scenery.

  1. Love this post! Those mountains are formidable and the lake with the cobalt teal blue is inviting…..so you have created a scene that has tension but the interesting kind of tension. So neat…..as I was viewing this, I realized that it is balanced….is this again Zen? I wonder….I forget but is CTB a good mixer? I think that you have a post somewhere about it, I’ll search for it. I always learn so much from your posts and then you include all other posts, it feels like a treasure hunt! A lot of them I have already read but I read them again! I am a kind of person who likes to re-learn over and over. Hmm, hope that isn’t a bad sign!

  2. Love the loose abstract quality to the ink lines together with the impressionistic trees and that cool cobalt lake. The Pacific North West is cleary in your soul 🙂

  3. A very nice view on Diablo Lake with mountains and trees, dear virtual Debi. I really like your composition and the colors. I would have painted the left mountain slope in this light brown because the colors are a bit cold. But still your sketch is beautiful. Cheers Mitza

      1. I’m happy that you appreciate my hint. Of course it is easier to correct what others do than to do it myself. Maybe I should cut-off my legs to find more time for art myself. Cheers Mitza

  4. Hi Debi!!.I Just Love this Mountain ❤️..Wow!!.
I am not commenting much these days, but got to show up Sometimes, Right!!.
I have a bias for liking that blackened line around and with paintings ( and I am not sure why)! but I just find that outlining shows up every time I get to express on paper. Just me, I guess.
Beautiful painting..Gallery Quality, in my humble opinion. Lol. ( laughing at myself ) See how this little beauty cheered me up!!. Greetings from Canada – Joanne
