Acrylics In Color!

Color – What fun!  Slathering Prussian and Cobalt Teal blues paints across the rough textured cotton canvas.

Acrylic Colors  Used

Prussian Blue, Indanthrone Blue,  Cobalt Teal Blue,  Light Red, Naples Yellow, White

I used Golden, Matisse and Winsor and Newton acrylics.

The Indanthrone Blue was by Golden.  This is a magnificent rich blue of great depth. A wonderful subtle hint, of violet in it. I adore this color.

 

Complementary Light Red  adds just a touch of warmth to give the design a better balance;  it is not too cold.

 

 

Brush and Knife

I used a my  magic palette knife  for most of the painting.  Fingers for smudging and a plain flat nylon brush  in a couple of places.

 

 

Purpose of the exercise

The goal of the painting exercise was to simply create a cool dominant image offset with its complement. To create an acrylic Abstract with blue greens.

 

Looking at the image,  it is open to individual interpretation.

Whereas I may see the white on the right side as a waterfall cascading down the side of  a layered escarpment; another may see a different interpretation altogether!

  3. Since I mostly paint abstracts myself, I’m not always thrilled when someone says “it looks like….” whatever. However, having said that – when I look at this wonderful play of color, I feel like I’m on top of a huge pile of rocks, with water pouring over and down – looking down through the water and seeing the coral there under the water. Well, just blew my own RULE! Oh well!

    1. I hear you, and I was pretty much like that. But, as an art teacher I’ve come to realise that this is just the pathway the people are using to try – to connect to the work. slowly, I let go. hehehe 🙂 occasionally, my feather may still rise ! lol And….       2. certainly! I even have burlap that would be great too….if one was inspired, to draw and paint fish. Should tell the hubs to do it, as he likes fish so much LOL 🙂

  6. I love the interplay of the colors and fun hearing what people “see”, I am also one that I don’t like to try to see something in an abstract but like to view it as a whole. Though this was fun anyway to read the comments. 🙂

    1. thank you Margaret! yes, it is so interesting to learn how others interpret a thing. In a way, that is stretching the boundaries for many right there…. the interpretation of an abstract. it is Fun to play with color 🙂

  12. This is gorgeous, Debi, Gorgeous! You are the mistress of abstract art and those wonderful blues! Wow and just enough red and white to make us zing around the room in awe! Love that rough texture – can you buy canvases that are rough, just like wc paper c/b purchased the same way? So beautiful. Thank you for your wondrous work! ❤

      canvas can come in a range; jerrys, dick blick and cheap joe show their canvas ranges by the yard and it helps show you what they look like.

      3. I have some sort of dark black humor and sometimes quite dirty, too. Once I transferred a joke that I found in wordpress to another woman and she deleted it, sorry, it was a bit saucy but I laughed so much about it.

  16. Here’s my interpretation — which is always the fun part of viewing an abstract painting. I see it as a fountain in the city where children come to splash, even though they’re not supposed to play in the fountain. I see they dressed in colorful clothes, and I can hear them laughing. I can hear the water, too. A lovely, lively painting.
