The Rekab 320s #2  performs this task, this technique with exquisite finesse.

 

 

one color

Burnt Sienna, PBr7 creates the brilliance, the tonal nuances,  the clarity, the lack of mud that I delight in.

 

 

one skewer

The tip of a skewer to add, judiciously, if needed a few hints of veins here and there.

 

 

one short stroll

A mini wander around the local park, gathering my own easy to carry,  reference materials. Things that are tangible, things that have some personal meaning to me. Something, that allows me to impart a bit of spark and zing into the creation.

one single fluid heartfelt brushstroke

A single continuous stroke to complete the form.  One brushstroke,  from the heart to the mind; on through to the shoulder then hand,  to the brush all in one fluid, continuous extension of thought. Simplicity.  Not simple.

 

I don’t desire any bells and whistles.  Back to Nature, the calming feel of one good brush and a relaxing mood to convey. Zen. That’s all.

    1. This post, was really about ‘the brush.’ and a bit of zen.
      And, to hopefully – inspire and stir the imagination to what just one brushstroke may create.
      I love this brush. I feel its the brush more than me, that creates. I usually just ‘get in its way.’ Anyway, Thank You Jodi for your excited, and enthused swooning comment! cheers, Debi

      1. Well – you certainly inspired me – I worked on brushstrokes a bit this evening 🙂 Still waiting for this wonderful brush though – it must be on a slow boat from Australia 🙂

  3. Exactly what I was thinking when I laid my eyes on the leaf: ZEN, a total and absolute ZEN!!! And that is correct as well when you say is simplicity not simple, takes some serious practice and some years to master at such degree a brush stroke. The brush in your hands is an extension of your soul and mind and it is a most beautiful one. I could just look at that leave and connect to nature for hours, it transports my mind onto a different dimension where I feel peace and contentment. Brilliant work!

  8. Debi, I am in AWE of you! When I first saw this image, I thought it was a photograph and when I found it YOU painted it in ONE stroke, I just about fell off my chair! You are unbelievable!!! ❤

    1. hi Amy, there were 2 images in the post…. 1 was a photo….’Found Leaf’ and 1 was a painting….the all white background, leaf only. you may have seen the photo?. at any rate,

      2. Ok! didn’t want to take credit for painting, what was a photo. 🙂 Well, the brush I use, is magic…. sort of. Rekab 320s is so sensitive that just by using firm to light, lifting up pressure creates this leaf. That is it.
