A Rose

A Rose in the garden, photo, debiriley.com

At the break of day, just as the sun crept above the horizon I zipped out to the garden. Before the dawn’s light waned and the stronger mid morning light prevailed; before the sweltering heat played drumbeats in my head.        In the Garden, she arose.

She Arose

High Key Filled with Light

High Key images are quite simply those that have a Dominant ratio of Light Tone within them.  Upon observation, they are light, airy, seemingly filled with more hope and joy than an image that is more Low Key, dominantly darker tones.

To balance the darkness, the haunting sombre Low Key of Midnight of Eidolon I decided to post “A Rose”  as well.   Shadows and Light – I felt balance was needed.

I am pleased with the way this very early light conveyed a sense of the delicate and ephemeral sweetness of the lovely rose.

The soft focus seems to have enhanced this fragility as well.

Its hard to believe, I’ve never been a huge fan of the rose until this year. But the abstract  shapes I’m seeing and the nuances of colors and tones have now charmed me!

In the Garden,

She arose

blushing  at dawn’s first light

My fair Rose.

Ephemeral beauty

her soft sweet perfume

she sent like a charm

Bespelling

the Garden dwellers

  1. Your photograph shows off the gentle folds of the beautiful rose. Both my grandmother and mother were master rose growers. The green thumb was not past on to me, but I do appreciate their beauty. Thank you for sharing your post Debi.

  2. Wonderful, beautiful, love your photo and the lovely poem. I love roses a lot, we have about 40 different kinds of roses. My favorite ones are old English roses, that look a bit like a ball and have a beguiling smell. Cheers Mitza

      1. yes, you could even make jam from these roses. We have a red one which originates from Persia, which has such a wonderful scent. This would be perfect for jam. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to pick all the flowers for this 🙂

      2. I learned 5 languages (English, French, Latin, Greek and Hebrew), but now my brain can’t learn anymore. I can only remember funny words like willy-nilly, serendipity etc. , hehe

      3. It’s long time ago that I learned Hebrew, when I was 20 and went to Israel to work in a kibbuz, but I still understand quite a lot when I see something in Hebrew in tv and I love this language and the country, too.

      4. that is fascinating! I’ve always been so interested in the culture and language; wanted to go there. But, its not a great time to be travelling about these days, now.

      5. yes, that’s true. When I was there in 1972 it was a really good time, the best year of my life. Can’t tell you how impressing it is to go through the bazar in old Jerusalem. We went there again several years ago with our son, who was a bit shocked (being a Waldorf scholar – if you know what I mean) that school-classes were accompanied by several people with machine-guns.
