Claude Monet, “its simply necessary to love.”

“People discuss my art and pretend to understand

as if it were necessary to understand,

when it is simply necessary to love.”    Claude Monet

A marvelous and inspiring quote from Claude Monet, that had me reflecting one afternoon as I was sitting by the water.

As the sun played upon the surface, 1000’s of entangled lines of light shimmered and I loved their beauty.

It dawned on me. The image had no rhyme or reason. It had no traditional form or shape.

It is not something to be “understood,”  – simply loved or not.

The act of creation, in any media is a fascinating and magical process. I simply love to create. Expressing in color, line, tone, texture - as if, they were words upon a page. Creating a uniquely me, interpretation. Enjoy More of my "one-of-a-kind" expressive art at society6.com/debiriley and, redbubble.com/people/debijriley/shop

  1. Oh Deb – I love this – so inspiring – so encouraging! Thank you for sharing! Sometimes I try to hard to understand what the artist is trying to say – or try to hard to follow photography and art rules. This is so freeing!!!

    1. my pleasure… I’ve overheard people about “what the artist was meaning” on paintings in galleries before, when it was quite clear – there was no way they could know. there was no written documentation from those time periods. Its conjecture. Which is fine! as long as I say so up front, lol

  2. reminds me of David Hockney, too and of your monochrome paintings. I really like it a lot. This is such a wonderful fresh color and has a really good composition, Debi. Regards Mitza
